Importance of an SFOC in Canada!

In Canada, you may not operate a UAS in flight except in accordance with a Special Flight Operations Certificate SFOC. The transport Canada is fully responsible for the conduct of civil UASs. It is the policy of Transport Canada that unmanned aircraft systems operating in Canada must meet equivalent levels of safety as manned aircraft. Requirements for operating an unmanned aerial vehicle fall under the Canadian Aviation Regulations also known as CAR. The main objective of the CARs is to lessen the risk to airspace users as well as to property and people on the ground.

According to the Canadian Aviation Regulations, no one shall operate an unmanned air vehicle in flight except in accordance with an SFOC. The SFOC Canada is mandatory to make sure the safety of the people and other property during the operation of an unmanned air vehicle. Transport Canada has to be influenced that an individual can conduct their planned operation safely and is sufficiently familiar with aviation rules and regulations before an SFOC will be granted. The certificate holders need to be aware in the application process that they must subscribe for necessary liability insurance covering risks of public liability as stated by the Canadian aviation regulations. This requirement is the basic condition to obtain the Special Flight Operations Certificate. If you have the enough money to afford a UAV, you have to understand the rules and regulations surrounding its use.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles are already being used to assess crops for identifying drainage areas, pest populations, monitor wildlife, flood damage and plant health. Using thermal light on-board cameras can gather geo-referenced pictures that can be recorded, manipulated, assessed and sometimes, even triangulated into 3D pictures.

In Canada, you can operate unmanned aircraft, with the proper responsibility to operate it in a safe and respectful, law-abiding manner. You can take privileges of unmanned aircraft in agriculture. An unmanned aircraft is used for commercial activities in Canada, but it requires a Special Flight Operations Certificate SFOC in order to fly legally.

If you want to operate a UAV, you need a Special Flight Operations Certificate. You must apply for an SFOC through your suitable Regional Transport Canada General Aviation Office atleast twenty working days before starting the operation. You can go through the application process on the website of Transport Canada.

Obtaining an SFOC Canada is compulsory for you if you are interested in operating a UAV. The Transport Canada is the legal authority for processing of an application for a Special Flight Operations Certificate for the Operation of an Unmanned Air Vehicle. Always keep in mind that, you may be charged by the regional enforcement branch of Transport Canada if you fly an unmanned aircraft without the compulsory SFOC.

If you will fly an unmanned aerial vehicle without SFOC, the regional enforcement branch of Transport Canada will imposed a fine of 5000 dollars on you. So, it is very much important to get your Special Flight Operations Certificate before operating an unmanned aircraft system in Canada.
